Do I need a lawyer for a separation
You are not required to, but a lawyer makes sure your separation agreement is fair, complete and enforceable, covering parenting, support and property.
How long does a divorce take in Ontario
Most divorces follow one year of living apart. A divorce takes effect on the 31st day after the judgment is issued.
How is property divided
Married spouses generally share the growth in value of their family property through equalisation. Common law partners are treated differently.
How is custody decided
On the best interests of the child. Parents can agree, or the court decides applying the Divorce Act, the Family Law Act and the Children's Law Reform Act.
Can we avoid going to court
Often yes. Many families resolve parenting, support and property through a written agreement, mediation or negotiation.
Do you offer fixed fees
Where the matter allows, such as an uncontested agreement, we quote a fixed fee in writing before we begin. Contested matters are billed transparently and discussed up front.
